“The sweetest time of year has come to the Adirondacks. From the Champlain Valley to the southeastern foothills, maple producers are hard at work transforming clear sap into golden goodness.

At Reber Rock Farm, about 4.5 miles off Northway Exit 32 on Jersey Street in Reber, draft horses rule. They plow the fields, skid logs and for maple weekends, March 19-20 and April 2-3, they take visitors on wagon rides at the sugar shack.

With 550 taps and a vacuum-pump system, syrup and maple cream are the farm’s spring bounty. But there’s plenty more produced on this 120-acre spread, including grass-fed beef, pastured chicken and pork, turkeys, garlic, sunflower oil and soap. The Reber Rock farm store also features fresh and frozen vegetables from its own and other local gardens plus whole wheat flour and wheat berries from Full and By Farm; yogurt and cheese from North Country Creamery; preserves and mustard from Boquet RiverJelly Mill; and pickles and sauces processed at the Whallonsburg Grange. Maple activities (all free) are 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and the store is open then too. [Source: Adirondack Life. Maple Season Fun at Reber Rock Farm” by Elizabeth Folwell on March 8, 2016.]
